Strange Creatures: Godzilla, Dinosaurs, and Fantasy Toys

Godzilla, Aurora model, 1964

Giant fantasy creatures have been popularized in film, comic books, and figures since in the 1950s. Dinosaurs and dragons are the first strange creatures celebrated in pop culture, followed by King Kong, and the most famous creature of all, Godzilla.

This exhibition features profiles of a few of these creative pioneers including Godzilla special effects director Eiji Tsuburaya, Hollywood special effects pioneer Ray Harryhausen, and Millicent Patrick, who designed the costume for The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), among others.
